Although it covers about 130 kilometres round trip and reaches an altitude of 5,545 meters, it’s important to note that the ascent is gradual and the route is very family-friendly.

Altitude is the key factor on the EBC Trekking route. With proper preparation and acclimatisation, this trek is easily doable. Our team of guides is always ready to maintain the walking pace, provide proper food, and adjust acclimatisation based on your fitness level.

During this trek, you pass through different trails like forest paths, rocky sections, and suspension bridges. Best Season to travel with Family to Everest Base Camp

The best times to trek to EBC with family and kids are during the spring season (March-May) and autumn season (September-November). These periods offer the most suitable weather for trekking, thanks to clear skies, consistent temperatures, colourful foliage, and enjoyable conditions, making it ideal for all ages.

Most trails are simple in autumn, but in spring, streams are bordered by vibrant rhododendrons, and the clear skies offer a perfect view of the Himalayas. Temperatures are mild, ranging from approximately 12°C to 20°C at both lowland and higher elevations, making it ideal for family hikes.

Autumn weather is also favourable, offering clear views of the mountain and the surrounding area; conditions are perfect for an adventure to Mount Everest. It’s only slightly cooler than spring, with daytime temperatures between 10°C and 15°C (50°F to 59°F), making it ideal for trekking. It gets a bit cold at night, especially at very high altitudes, so wearing appropriate clothing is highly recommended.

Altitude Sickness Prevention for Kids on Everest Trek

While trekking to Everest Base Camp, altitude remains the main challenge. Trekking above 5000 meters naturally involves the risk of altitude sickness. During your Family-friendly EBC trek, you'll camp at Gorakshep (5140m) and face a tough hike to Kala Patthar (5545m) and Everest Base Camp (5364m).

Given these high altitudes, we have created a 16-day Everest Base Camp Trek itinerary, featuring 2 days dedicated to acclimatisation at Namche Bazaar and Dingboche. Additionally, we included short camps to ensure that participants can rest properly and acclimatize to the environment.

Getting your body used to the altitude is crucial for preventing symptoms of altitude sickness, such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness, blocked ears, headache, fatigue, loss of appetite, and rapid heartbeat. If you notice any of these signs, consult your guide right away and take preventive steps like drinking broth, staying hydrated, and allowing your body time to adapt.

Food and Accommodation during the EBC trek with kids & Family

During your EBC Trek with kids and family, accommodation is provided in well-equipped teahouses. Teahouses along the EBC Trek route are average but give you the homely conditions. Rooms offer a twin-sharing bed with warm blankets and a comfortable mattress. In the lower altitude, you can get the attached rooms, but in the higher altitude, there are only shared bathrooms.

For families, Overland Trek Nepal provides the option to pre-book the best available lodges, expecting clean and comfortable accommodations at overland trekking destinations, where options can be quite limited. We focus on family-friendly lodges with welcoming hosts who enhance kids’ experience during the trip.

Similarly, these teahouses offer you a variety of food options from local Nepali cuisines to Western. Some of the food options available during the EBC trek are:
