Overview of Ama Dablam Base Camp

Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek is an alternative pathway in the Everest Region. Located at a height of 4570 meters, the journey to base camp is the starting point of the Ama Dablam Expedition. However, this trip to the foothills of Ama Dablam is only for those who want to avoid the busy Everest Base Camp Trek. Get into the lively villages of Everest like Phakding, Namche, and Pangboche. Explore the mighty vistas of the Khumbu Region while walking through the UNESCO World Heritage site Sagarmatha National Park.

This Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek navigates through the Sagarmatha National Park, often allowing us to gain insights into the Himalayan Flora and Fauna. Moreover, the route traverses attractive Sherpa Villages that tell you about the local Sherpa community, their customs, traditions, and cultures. The views of the highest peaks, such as Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, Mt. Baruntse, Mt. Pumori, and many more, add a wholesome experience along the journey.

Though Ama Dablam Trekking isn’t as difficult as other treks like Everest Three High Passes or Gokyo Lake Trek, one must acquire excellent physical fitness. The difficulty level of this trek is quite moderate. The only challenging part of this trip is Hiking from Pangboche to Ama Dablam Base Camp, which has a rugged trail. Other than that, the pathway rewards excellent views, suspension bridges, remote villages, monasteries, dense forests, and so on.

About Mt. Ama Dablam

Mt. Ama Dablam (6812 meters) is named after “Mother’s Necklace” in the Language of the Sherpa Community. According to history, it is believed that the appearance of this Mountain looks like a mother carrying her child in her arms from side ridges. Besides its beauty, according to the mountain climbers, Mt. Ama Dablam Expedition is a technically difficult mountain to climb than any other 8000 mountains. The steep, icy slopes and ridges make this mountain climbing challenging. This mountain was first climbed in 1961 by a team of New Zealand led by Sir. Edmund Hillary.

In recent times, climbers have combined this mountain with Island Peak Climbing or Lobuche Peak Climbing. Otherwise, those who don’t want to climb this peak prefer to go to the Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek and embrace the beauty of this gigantic peak.

Is this Trek best for me?

The Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek Itinerary lasts 10-14 days. The altitude goes beyond 4000 meters while reaching the base camp, and expect to walk 6-7 hours a day. Also, the journey is excellent to witness some of the highest peaks in the world without reaching high altitudes like Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar. This excursion is best for those who are seeking moderate adventure that involves occasional challenging days. Hence, travelers must engage in physical activities like hiking, strength workouts, jogging, etc., to combat this trip easily.

Ama Dablam Base Camp Hike Route and Itinerary

The Ama Dablam Base Camp Trekking Route follows the trail of Everest Base Camp Trek till Pangboche. Starting from Kathmandu, the first day will be a scenic flight to Lukla and a hike up to Phakding. After Phakding, the trail will enter into the Sagarmatha National Park to arrive at Namche Bazaar. The small town of Namche Bazaar is a tourist hub where most of the facilities like ATMs, Café, Bakery, Gear Shop, etc. are available. Likewise, the trail continues from Namche to Ama Dablam Base Camp via Pangboche. Lastly, the Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek Itinerary traces the same route back to Kathmandu.

Everest Base Camp Trek with Ama Dablam

Visiting two iconic base camps at the same time would be a paradise for mountain enthusiasts. Combining Everest Base Camp Trek with Ama Dablam is the best way to enjoy the perspective of the Khumbu Region as a whole. While doing these trips, the first phase will be a Hike to Everest Base Camp and then a return to Pangboche for Ama Dablam Base Camp Hike. It takes 15-18 days to complete the journey while combining both of these base camps.
