Ideal time to do the 3-Day Island Peak Climb from Chukkung

Thebest times to climb Island Peak are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These periods are ideal for both climbing and trekking across Nepal due to their favourable weather. During these seasons, temperatures are mild, skies are often clear, and mountain views are especially breathtaking, making the trip more memorable. Additionally, the weather tends to be stable, reducing the risk of sudden storms and improving safety, which overall enhances your climbing experience.

How difficult is this short Island Peak Climbing?

Island Peak is one of the most beginner-friendly peaks to climb above 6000 meters in Nepal. Although you need to use fixed ropes and technical gear such as ascenders, crampons, an ice axe, and harnesses, there are only a few technical sections. Island Peak is perfect for first-time climbers and a training ground for mountaineers.

Preparation is crucial for a successful climb. Climbers should have previous experience at altitudes over 4,000 meters because of the risk of altitude sickness. It is advised to train for at least 6–8 weeks beforehand, focusing on endurance, strength, and elevation hikes. Proper acclimatization, a guided team, and appropriate gear make Island Peak an exciting and rewarding challenge for adventure lovers eager to explore Himalayan mountaineering.

Altitude sickness remedies during the Island Peak Expedition

Altitude is the primary obstacle during the 3-day Island Peak Climbing, especially as you go above 6000 meters. Climbing in Nepal frequently encounter acute mountain sickness (AMS), also known as altitude sickness. Common symptoms are nausea, vomiting, dizziness, blocked ears, headaches, fatigue, loss of appetite, and a quickened heartbeat.

To effectively manage these challenges, proper acclimatisation is essential. Before attempting Island Peak, it's recommended to hike to Everest Base Camp (5364m) or Kala Patthar (5545m) to help your body adjust to high altitudes.

Where to Eat and Stay during the Island Peak Expedition?

During your 3-day Island Peak Expedition, food and accommodation are included in a well-equipped teahouse in Chukhung for two days. The teahouses in Chukhung offer rooms with twin beds, comfortable mattresses, and warm blankets.

But at the Base Camp, services are limited, and supplies are provided in a tent. Our crew will ensure you receive the best food and service possible.

Similarly, these teahouses offer a range of food options, from local Nepalese dishes to Western cuisine.

  • Breakfast: Hot drinks, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, Tibetan bread, pancakes, French toast with jam, cereals, porridge, chapatti, omelettes, and fruits
  • Lunch and Dinner: Dal Bhat, momo (dumplings), fried rice, spring rolls, sandwiches, rice with chicken curry, pizza, noodles, spaghetti, macaroni, burgers, apple pie, chocolate roll, etc.

Electricity and Wi-Fi Access on the Island Peak Expedition

During our 3-day Island Peak Climbing, electricity and internet are accessible in Chukhung. However, at the Base Camp, we stay at tents where there is electricity or wifi access. But for the service of wifi and charging, it costs between $2 and $5, but connection speeds may be slow due to the remote location.
