Essential Information

Nepal Visa information for climbing to Lobuche Peak

Getting a Nepal visa is simple and easy, since you can get an arrival visa when you land at Tribhuvan International Airport. With your valid passport and a passport-size photo, you can quickly get a visa from the Immigration desk at the airport. Alternatively, you can apply through the Nepal Immigration website or at a Nepalese Embassy in your country.

Except for Indian citizens, all other foreigners need a visa to enter Nepal. The Gratis Visa (visa free of charge) is available to Chinese citizens for 150 days and to SAARC nationals (excluding those from Afghanistan) for 30 days.

We recommend getting a minimum of a 15-day visa for the short Lobuche expedition.

Visa cost for Nepal:

  • 15-day Visa costs $30 per person
  • 30-day Visa costs $50 per person
  • 90-day Visa costs $125 per person

Is travel insurance mandatory for the 3-day Lobuche Peak Climbing?

Travel insurance is mandatory for climbing Lobuche Peak. Although the Lobuche Peak is a beginner-friendly climbing peak, all climbers should get an insurance plan that covers all potential risks, such as medical emergencies, flight cancellations, trail problems, rescue missions, lost luggage, and other related expenses.

Obtain travel insurance that not only covers the financial expenses but also ensures you have a sense of security and boosts your confidence before climbing. This will allow you to experience the thrill and adventure to the fullest.

Responsible and eco-friendly expedition in the Everest Region

Peak climbing is a dream for many adventurers around the world. To keep this dream alive, we, Overland Trek Nepal, organize peak climbs in Nepal responsibly and sustainably. Likewise, during the Lobuche Peak Climbing expedition, we are conscious of our activities and their impact on the Himalayas. We ensure that our clients dispose of all the garbage they produce during the trip. If a climber fails to bring back the trash, they must pay a penalty of up to $500 as a garbage deposit.

Additionally, respecting the local culture and way of life is crucial. Most guides and porters are from the same region, supporting the local community and economy. During your trip, you will stay at local teahouses, interact with locals, greet them with “namaste,” and immerse yourself in their way of life to learn about their culture.

Best season to summit Lobuche Peak in 3 days

Just like trekking in the Everest Region, the ideal time to summit the Lobuche Peak is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. These seasons are considered ideal not only for climbing but also for trekking throughout Nepal, as they offer the most favorable weather conditions. During these times, temperatures are comfortable, the skies are often clear, and the stunning mountain vistas are at their most spectacular, providing breathtaking views that make the trip even more memorable. Moreover, the weather generally remains stable, reducing the chances of sudden storms or worsening conditions, which increases safety and enhances the overall experience of your climb.

Difficulty level of Lobuche peak climbing

Although the Loubuche Peak Expedition is beginner-friendly, it is a technical trekking peak that requires prior experience trekking at high altitudes. Unlike Mera Peak and Island Peak, Lobuche demands more physical fitness, previous high-altitude experience, and basic mountaineering skills.

The most difficult part of the climb is on the steep ice and snow slopes near the summit, with gradients between 40° and 60°, requiring climbers to use fixed ropes, ascenders, crampons, an ice axe, and harnesses.

Preparation is essential for a successful climb. Climbers should have prior experience at altitudes above 4,000 meters due to the risk of altitude sickness. It is recommended to train at least 6–8 weeks beforehand, emphasizing endurance, strength, and elevation hikes. With proper acclimatization, a guided team, and suitable gear, Lobuche Peak provides an exciting and fulfilling challenge for adventure enthusiasts eager to explore Himalayan mountaineering.

Essential remedies for altitude sickness during the Lobuche Expedition

Altitude is the major challenge during the 3-day Lobuche Peak Climbing as you reach altitudes above 6000 meters. Acute mountain sickness(AMS) or altitude sickness is common while climbing such peaks in Nepal. Symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness, blocked ears, headache, fatigue, loss of appetite, and rapid heartbeat can be experienced during the climb.

Dealing with such challenges is possible with proper acclimatization. Before climbing Lobuche Peak, it's recommended to hike up to Everest Base Camp (5364m) orKala Patthar (5545m). It will help your body adjust to the high altitudes.

Necessary permits for climbing Loubuche Peak

For climbing Lobuche Peak, a Peak climbing permit, a Sagarmatha National Park Permit, and a Khumbu Rural Municipality permit are necessary. Overland Trek Nepal will issue these permits with your passport and a copy of your visa. But the Cost of the Peak climbing permit depends on the season. By the time you reach Lobuche, our team will already be there with the permit cards.

Permit cost for Lobuche Peak Climbing:

  • Khumbu Rular Municipality Permit: USD 20 per person
  • Sagarmatha National Park Permit: USD 30 per person

Peak Climbing Permit for Locuche Cost:

  • Spring (March to May): USD 250 per person
  • Autumn (September to February): USD 125 per person
  • Winter (December to February): USD 70 per person
  • Summer (June to August): USD 70 per person

Food and Accommodation during the Lobuche Expedition

During your 3-day Lobuche Peak Expedition, food and accommodation are provided in a well-equipped teahouse in Lobuche for 2 days. However, at the High Camp, it is supplied in a tent with limited services. Our crew members will make sure you get the best food and services. Otherwise, the teahouses in Lobuche offer rooms with twin beds, comfortable mattresses, and warm blankets.

Similarly, these teahouses provide a variety of food options, from local Nepalese dishes to Western foods.

  • Breakfast: Hot drinks, Boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, Tibetan bread, pancakes, French toast with jam, cereals, porridge, chapatti, omelettes, and fruits
  • Lunch and Dinner: Dal Bhat, Momo (dumplings), fried rice, spring rolls, sandwiches, rice with chicken curry, pizza, noodles, spaghetti, macaroni, burgers, apple pie, chocolate roll, etc.

Electricity and Internet facilities during the Lobuche Expedition

During our 3-day Lobuche expedition, electricity and internet facilities are available in Lobuche. Otherwise, there is no facility of electricity and internet in High Camp, as we are staying in a tent. In Lobuche, the wifi and charging services cost between $2 and $5. While WiFi is available, connection speeds may be slow because of the remote location.

Climbing Gears and Equipment Needed for Climbing Lobuche Peak

Packing the appropriate gear and equipment is crucial for climbing technical peaks like Lobuche. The right gear and equipment will always ensure your safety in challenging conditions and boost your confidence to make the trip more memorable. Keep that in mind, our packages include some of the mountaineering gear such as ice axes, a harness, crampons, a carabiner, an ascender & descender lock. But other personal gear should be carried by yourself.
