Quick Guide to Trekking in the Hidden Limi Valley in Humla

Limi Valley Trek is one of Nepal’s most remote and culturally rich trekking experiences, offering pristine nature, unique culture, and spiritual connections. Located in the far-western part of Nepal in Humla district, Limi Valley is a hidden valley bordering Tibet.

Unlike popular treks like the Everest Base Camp Trek and the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, the Humla Limi Valley Trek is a remote journey that highlights its pristine natural beauty and ancient Tibetan culture. The trekking routes pass through historic villages like Til, Halji, and Jhang, where stone houses, centuries-old monasteries, and the warm hospitality of locals showcase the region’s culture, lifestyle, and history.

The Limi Valley Trekking route passes through high-altitude passes such as Nara La Pass (4560m) and Nyalu La Pass (4988m), from where you can witness breathtaking views of mountain peaks such as Mt. Kailash (6638m), Api Himal (7132m), Mt. Saipal (7031m), Mt. Kanjirowa (6883m),and various other peaks of Tibet. As you traverse through the Limi Valley, the diverse changes in landscapes, river valleys, and small lakes will amaze you. Likewise, you'll also get the chance to encounter rare wildlife such as snow leopards, blue sheep, and Himalayan wolves, adding to the thrill of the journey.

This 18-day Limi Valley Trek is perfect for those who seek a less crowded trekking experience. However, this trek is not suitable for beginners, as the route involves several high-altitude passes and is located in a remote area. Humla Limi Valley Trek is a perfect blend of rugged Himalayan trekking, rich Tibetan culture, sacred spiritual sites, and untouched natural beauty.

How hard is the Limi Valley Trek?

Limi Valley is a remote region in Nepal, known for its untouched beauty and unique culture. The 18-day Limi Valley Trek is one of the more challenging routes because of the remote terrain and limited facilities. It is also longer than other trails, such as the Manaslu Circuit Trek and the Tsum Valley Trek. Most of the trail is above 4000 meters, which can make walking difficult due to lower oxygen levels.

This trek is suitable for experienced trekkers, not for beginners. Even if you are experienced, preparation is essential before starting such a trek. Prepare mentally and physically, eat nutritious foods, choose the best season, and select the right gear.

What is the cost of the Limi Valley Trek?

Our Limi Valley Trek package typically ranges from $ 2,500 to $ 3,500 per person, depending on the group size, trek length, services, and chosen itinerary. We're offering an 18-day Limi Valley Trek for $ 2500, which includes 18 days of accommodation, round-trip flights from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and Simikot, meals during the trek, guide and porter fees, and all government taxes.

However, our Package doesn’t include the personal expenses, such as drinks, hot water, showers, Wi-Fi, and device charging.

Ideal time to go trekking in the Limi Valley

The best times for trekking to Limi Valley are in the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). This time of the year offers clear skies, moderate temperatures, and stunning mountain views. These seasons are the peak trekking season in Nepal.

Although the Limi Valley lies in a rain-shadow area, we don’t recommend trekking in the Monsoon (June to August), as most of the routes and roads can be blocked due to heavy rainfall and landslides. Likewise, in the winter season (December to February), due to the extreme cold and snowfall in some areas, trekking activities are challenging to operate.

Altitude-related challenges on the Limi Valley Trekking route.

Altitude sickness is common among trekkers who trek above 4000 meters in the Himalayas of Nepal. Most of the trekking route to Limi Valley lies at an altitude of around 4000 meters, with the highest point being 4988m at Nyalu La Pass. While reaching or crossing such passes, you may experience altitude symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness, blocked ears, headache, fatigue, loss of appetite, and rapid heartbeat.

If you start to feel symptoms, talk to your guide right away and take the steps you need to prevent altitude sickness and support your recovery. Drinking warm soups, staying hydrated, and giving your body time to adjust to the new altitude are also key to avoiding altitude sickness.
