Way to Gosaikunda Lake

The Gosaikunda Trek Itinerary starts from Kathmandu in the early at around 7 AM. The scenic 6-7 hours drive along the Trishuli River passing various small settlements before reaching Dhunche. From here the actual trek begins and the trail heads through the farmlands and follows the gradual ascent towards Deurali. Continue the trek following the ascending route inside the dense forest of pine and rhododendrons to reach the traditional local settlement of Shin Gompa.

Leaving Shin Gompa, embark on a challenging uphill trail to Lauribina, which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding natural beauty and mountain peaks. Next day, start your trek to the final destination Gosaikunda Lake at an altitude of 4380 m. The Gosaikunda Lake Trek starts early with breakfast at around 7 AM at your hotel in Kathmandu. The scenic 6-7 hours drive to Dhunche follows the Prithivi Highway to Galchi and then the Pasang Lambhu Highway alongside the Trishuli River.

The road heads through beautiful landscapes and farmlands, passing through small towns like Bidur, Battar, and Trishuli Bazaar before reaching Dhunche.

Today the actual Gosaikunda Lake Trek begins after an early breakfast. Start with the gentle ascent to Ghatte Khola through terrace farms and lush green forest. From here, two hours of climbing through the dense green forest leads to Deurali, a small settlement on the way.

The trek continues through the challenging uphill hike to Dhimsa, where you’ll stop for lunch. Enjoy the delightful lunch with the breathtaking views of natural landscapes, before heading towards the Sing Gompa.

Shin Gompa also known as Chandanbari is a popular stop for trekkers of both Langtang Gosaikunda Trek and Gosaikunda Lake Trek. Here you will find a yak cheese factory and a peaceful Buddhist monastery.

Today’s trek is relatively short but challenging as you gain maximum altitude. Start your day early with breakfast at around 7 AM, then continue the trek following the ascends through the ridge. After walking for around 2 hours, the trail takes you to Cholangpati, where you can stop for a quick break.

Further, two more hours of challenging climbing along the pine forest with the melodious sound of birds and mountain peaks take you to Lauribina where we can have lunch when done lunch then move out to trek, continuing to Gosainkunda. When we start walking uphill path offers continuous views of mountain peaks, including Langtang Lirung (7234 m), Langtang Ri (7205 m), Manaslu (8163 m), and Ganesh Himal (7422 m).

The 2 hours of walk along the ridge takes you to the Buddha Temple, significant to both Hindu and Buddhist values. Additionally, one and a half hours reveals the first sight of Saraswati Kunda, Bhairav Kunda followed by the Gosaikunda Lake.

Gosaikunda is an alpine holy Lake with religious significance for Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims. It is also the origin of the popular Trishuli River.
