Route Map to Yala Peak Via Langtang Valley

The Langtang Valley with Yala Peak Trek begins in Kathmandu (1,400 m) with a bus ride to Syabrubesi, which takes approximately 7-8 hours. It is a popular gateway for trekking in the Langtang region, from where our actual trek starts, following the trail along the Langtang River to Lama Hotel, Ghodatabel, and then to Langtang Village. The trail passes through dense forests of bamboo, oaks, rhododendrons, and alpine meadows, offering spectacular natural scenery. Continuing the journey, the trail heads toward the Kyanjin Gompa, the last human settlement in Langtang Valley. Once you reach Kyanjin Gompa, also known as Kyangjin Kharka, explore the village, visit the old Kyanjin Monastery, the cheese factory, and the nearby glacial lake.

The next day, wake up early and hike toward the highest point, Kyanjin Ri (4773m), which offers stunning views of mountain peaks, including Langtang Lirung (7227m), Langtang Ri (7205m), Yala Peak (5520m), and others. Capture the moment at the top before returning to Kyanjin Gompa for an overnight stay. The following day, the trek continues as you pack all your tents, sleeping bags, food, and other essentials for camping toward Yala Peak Base Camp at an elevation of 4,600 m. Enjoy camping and prepare for the summit of Yala Peak.

The next morning, wake early and begin a challenging hike to the top of Yala Peak, which offers panoramic views of peaks including Langtang Lirung (7227m), Langtang Ri (7205m), Yala Peak (5520m), Shishapangma (8027m), Gangchempo (6387m), and others. Spend some time at the summit before descending back to Base Camp and then to Kyanjin Gompa. Leaving Kyanjin Gompa, the return journey follows the same trail through Langtang Village, Ghodatabela, Lama Hotel, Bamboo, and Syabrubesi. From there, catch the bus back to Kathmandu, where the journey concludes.

Guide to Climbing Yala Peak: Technical Requirements and Gear

Climbing Yala Peak does not require previous climbing experience, as it is a non-technical trekking peak in the Langtang region. Unlike Mera Peak and Lobuche Peak, it doesn’t require technical skills or specialized mountaineering gear, such as a climbing rope, ice axe, carabiner, or harness. However, you should be physically fit and have prior trekking experience to reach the summit. You can climb Yala Peak with just basic trekking gear.

How hard is it to complete the Langtang Yala Peak Trek?

The Langtang Valley and Yala Peak Trek is considered moderate to challenging in terms of difficulty. Climbing Yala Peak (5,520 m) is the most difficult part of this trek; otherwise, it is a moderate-level trek in the Langtang Region.

While planning the Langtang Valley Trek with Yala Peak Climbing, the main question that comes to mind is “Is the Langtang Yala Peak difficult for beginners?” Although you’re physically fit and mentally prepared, we don’t recommend this trek for first-time hikers. However, the climb of Yala Peak is not technically challenging, but it does require prior experience in trekking.

Preparation is key to the success of any trekking trip in Nepal. Before embarking on a Langtang region trek, prepare both physically and mentally. Eat a proper, balanced diet, pack the right equipment, and choose the best season.
