Classic Cultural Trek.
Poon Hill is about five-six days trek from Kathmandu if you start your trekking at Birethanti. You can hire a jeep or taxi from Pokhara to Birethanti. The first day of the trek is almost entirely uphill. Depending upon how slow (or fast) you want to do this, you can reach Ghorepani on the second or third day. Poon Hill itself if about 30 minutes walk from Ghorepani, where one can observe amazing golden mountains during sunrise, which is this trek route famous for. You can either come back the same way or go to Ghandruk and spend a few days in this typical Gurung village. Poon Hill Trek is a tea house/lodge trekking. The food along the Trek is simple, the views are wonderful and you can get a feel of Nepalese mountain life. Definitely worth the money and time.

Such an amazing experience with Overland Trek Nepal.
My friend and I did a 5 day Poon Hill trek with Santosh and it was amazing. Santosh was extremely knowledgeable about our surroundings and put our safety first every step of the way. He guides with energy and enthusiasm which made the more difficult parts slightly easier.
It was my birthday whilst we were away and without either of us mentioning it, he arranged for a birthday cake to be made by the locals – it was very appreciated after a long day of trekking.
The trek itself is beautiful, the views of the Annapurna circuit are totally worth it! I would recommend Overland Trek Nepal if you want a tailored and insightful tour of Nepal.

What a lovely trek with best company.
Overland Trek Nepal took all the fuss out of organizing a trip – when we organized our second trip we just walking into the office at Thamel and walked out 20 minutes later having organized everything!

You can pay in 2 ways – either pay an all-inclusive price which covers accommodation, food, guide, transport, and permits or just pay for the guide/transport/permits then organizes your own accommodation/food day by day. Practically you end up with the same experience – the latter option is a bit cheaper, but you’ll need to take cash with you and budget day-to-day. For our big group trek to Poon Hill, the all-inclusive option was super easy. When you journey from village to village the guides will generally have set-tea houses they will stay with every time and have a good relationship with.

The walks themselves are all beautiful (as you’d expect) but having a guide meant no stress or worrying (especially about navigation) at any point along the way! Nick leads our large group and I can’t recommend him enough – kind, knowledgable, and eager to teach you about nature and culture along the way. He has 20 years of experience and it’s fully on display!

For our 2 person trek to ABC where we went longer and also walked at a faster pace, our guide Unish was fantastic at giving us plenty of options to stop and take photos, push ourselves physically and also give us our own space to soak up the stunning landscape. I would say any guide you get with Overland Trek Nepal will be bound to ensure you have the best trek of your life!

The timing on each trek is also flexible to your pace and requirements – you can combine certain treks like Poon Hill, Mardi Himal, ABC to suit the time you have available. Definitely recommend contacting them for more info beforehand, or if you’re in Kathmandu Thamel you can drop into the office and walk out with a trek planned!
