The Gosaikunda Helicopter Tour is the fastest way to explore the holy Gosaikunda Lake. Regarded as one of the holiest sites for Hindu and Buddhist followers. The alpine freshwater oligotrophic lake is nestled in the majestic Langtang National Park, at an elevation of 4,380 m (14,370 ft). Consisting of 108 lakes the Gosaikunda area nestles several lakes in the region.
According to the legends, the lake was created by the Hindu deity Lord Shiva, after he consumed poison to save humanity. The lake was created to cool his agony from the poisoning. So, hundreds of pilgrims, devoted, saints, and yogis flock to the lake, to take a dip in the freezing water to cleanse their sins and perform rituals.
The Gosaikunda Helicopter Tour starts from the domestic terminal in Kathmandu Valley. Hovering above the Kathmandu valley towards the north, passing above the rolling lush hills of the Mahabharat range. You will be hovering above Shivapuri National Park and the Langtang National Park lush deep wilderness. As you gain altitude witness the majestic views of the mighty snowcapped mountains, crossing the high Himalayan Rocky Mountains with views of several lakes. Upon reaching Gosaikunda the helicopter lands at the bank of the lake. After landing head out and explore the region and witness the beauty of the lake. After exploring the lake vicinity hop on the helicopter and head back towards Kathmandu.
Gosainkunda Lake is an alpine freshwater body system that falls from Langtang National Park at an altitude of 4380m and remains frozen in the winter season from October to June. 108 lakes can be found in this area and the water of this lake is considered holy water. Many people from Nepal and India came to this lake during the Gangadashara Festival and Janai Purnima Festival.
This place is described as a religious site and is regarded as the home of Lord Shiva and Gauri. The Lake has been referred to as Samudra Manthan in old Hindu scriptures “Bhagavata Purna”, “Vishnu Purna” and “Ramayan” where it is believed that this lake was created by Lord Shiva when he thrust his Trishul (holy Trident) into a mountain to extract water so that he could cool his stinging throat after he had swallowed poison.
