Everest Base Camp Trek Difficulty

Everest Base Camp Trek is considered moderate in terms of difficulty. Even beginners can trek to EBC if they are fit and do not have any health issues. Although you might have some problems with higher altitudes, you can overcome them if you take enough time during the trek to acclimatize.

To trek to the Everest Base Camp, you do not need any prior trekking experience. However, you need to have enough stamina and should be physically fit. The trek requires you to continuously move through a few destinations within a day. The length of the journey also varies for days. However, if you have done proper preparations at least a month before the trek, then you can easily enjoy the trip.

A trip to Everest is a chance you might get only once in your lifetime, so you shouldn’t let your lack of experience prevent you from challenging it. For the trip to EBC, we recommend you get enough exercise at least a month before the trek. You should mostly be doing acrobatic exercises like cycling, running, and swimming. Acrobatic exercise allows you to utilize the oxygen in your body more efficiently. This will be necessary as you will be moving to higher altitudes where the air is very thin.

Everest Base Camp Trek Itinerary

Here is a general itinerary so that you will have an idea about how you will be traveling.

Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu, where you will spend the night.

Day 2: Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla, trek walk to Phakding – 9 km (4 hours)

Day 3: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar – 12 km (6 hours)

Day 4: Acclimatization day. No walking, except maybe a quick hike up to the Everest View Hotel.

Day 5: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche – 10 km (6 hours)

Day 6: Hike from Tengboche to Dingboche – 12 km (6 hours)

Day 7: Acclimatization day in Dingboche. Explore the area.

Day 8: Hike from Dingboche to Lobuche – 12 km (7 hours)

Day 9: Hike from Lobuche to Gorak Shep to EBC and back to Gorak Shep – 15 km (8 hours)

Day 10: Hike from Gorak Shep up Kalapathar and then to Pheriche – 13 km (7 hours)

Day 11: Trek from Pheriche back to Namche Bazaar – 14 km (8 hours)

Day 12: Trek Tengboche to Namche Bazaar

Day 13: Trek Namche Bazaar to Lukla

Day 14: Flight back to Kathmandu from Lukla

Day 15: Departure to Tribhuwan International Airport
